Hey there, lovely families! We’re gearing up for your upcoming family photo session at Diana Marie Photo Studio, and I’m beyond excited to capture some magical moments with you all. Here’s a little checklist to ensure everything goes smoothly!
Before Your Session
Beauty Time: Book your hair, nail, and makeup appointments well in advance. Remember to touch up those roots and ensure your nail polish isn’t chipped. Opt for neutral or pastel tones – they look great on camera! Avoid neon and bright colors – they aren’t as camera friendly.
Outfit Magic: Plan your outfits at least a week ahead to avoid any last-minute stress. If you’re unsure, don’t hesitate to reach out to me anytime for outfit advice. I’m here to help! I want your family photo session to be a stress-free and happy event, not one that’s loaded with anxiety!
Special Touches: If you have specific props, mementos, or pose ideas in mind, let’s chat about them in advance. We want your session to be uniquely yours.
Kid-Friendly Prep: Prepare the little ones by telling them we’re going to have a blast with our friend Diana. Practice some games like ‘Simon Says’ and ‘Ring Around the Rosie’ and have them practice their best smiles.
Review Time: Take a peek at any emails I’ve sent you with links to blog posts, wardrobe ideas, and other important info. Trust me; it’s worth it!
Happy Tummies: Make sure everyone’s well-rested and fed before the session. It’s the secret sauce for happy moods. And don’t forget those handy bribes for when the kiddos need a little extra motivation.
How to Dress for Your Session
Weather-Wise: Dress for the weather to stay comfy and relaxed throughout the shoot.
Flattering Choices: Ladies, consider medium or long dresses for that beautiful flow. Short dresses can be tricky during seated poses.
Undergarment Etiquette: Ensure your clothing properly covers undergarments and bras for any type of movement or pose.
No-Nos: Leave tennis shoes, T-shirts, and clothes with writing on them at home.
Mix and Match: Opt for complementary color palettes instead of identical outfits. Neutrals and earth tones work wonders, while bright colors, neon, and logos can distort the image. Check out my style guide for more info!
Comfort Matters: Wear comfy shoes and clothes that allow for movement. We’ll be doing lots of it, and we want you to feel your best.
Accessorize Smart: Accessories like bowties, suspenders, hats (sans baseball caps), and scarves can add that extra flair to your photos.
Empty Pockets: Men, remember to empty your pockets before the shoot. We don’t want any bulging surprises in the photos!
What to Bring to Your Photo Session
First Thing’s First: Arrive about 10 minutes before your session to give yourself time to walk to the shoot location (this will be different for each family’s session). Sometimes we trek it to find the best spot for a great shot!
Freshen Up: Pack some makeup, a hairbrush, and hairspray to keep everyone looking their best.
Sensible Shoes: Bring extra shoes for walking in case we explore areas that aren’t heel-friendly.
Kid’s Backup Outfit: Kids will be kids (in fact, we encourage this!), and accidents can happen. Pack an extra set of clothes for them.
Secret Snacks: Keep some snacks handy but choose ones that won’t leave stains on fingers or mouths. We’ll keep the kiddos happy while creating natural, dynamic images. Keep the snacks a secret from the kiddos. Kids who know they have a treat waiting for them can get anxious waiting for that snack to make its entrance!
How to Pose During Your Photo Session
No Cheese Needed: My style is all about capturing your authentic selves. You won’t need to say “cheese” because we’ll focus on interaction and genuine moments.
Trust the Process: I might place you in unique positions, but trust me, they’ll look amazing in the photos. Every shot during your family photo session will showcase your unique dynamic.

What to Expect After Your Family Photo Session
Behind the Scenes: I’ll carefully select and edit the best images, removing any with closed eyes or blurriness. Your gallery should be ready within two weeks.
Gallery Fun: I’ll provide a watermarked proofing gallery for you to choose your included digitals. You can also order prints directly. It’s going to be so much fun!
